Small films often find it difficult to thrive especially when the external factors are very strong. A movie has to be really well-made, moving and entertaining in order to succeed despite competition from Hindi biggies like Bharat and Kabir Singh and also the exciting ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Yet, a small Marathi film with big heart, Mogra Phulaalaa, has managed to slowly and steadily earn quite a moolah at the box office.
Mogra Phulaalaa released on Friday June 14 on limited screens in Maharashtra. Yet, it managed to open at Rs. 37.50 lakhs. The collections went up on Saturday to Rs. 56.20 lakhs. On Day 3, there was the very important India vs Pakistan match. Yet, the drop was very marginal and it ended up earning Rs. 51.50 lakhs on a day when footfalls dipped considerably across the country. The three day collections hence stood at an impressive Rs. 1.45 crore.
Mogra Phulaalaa then sustained in the weekdays and also in the second weekend. From Day 4 to Day 10, it earned Rs. 2.72 crore. In other words, the TOTAL collections from June 14 to June 23 stand at Rs. 4.17 crore. According to the film’s spokesperson, the heartening collections of the film prompted City Pride cinemas to increase the number of shows in their properties across Pune, Indapur, Khed, Baramati, Ahmednagar, Sangli, Phaltan and Khed. A few cineplexes in Mumbai and Thane also followed suit.

It’s important to note that Mogra Phulaalaa has sustained despite the competition from Kabir Singh. This Shahid Kapoor starrer released on June 21 and is the surprise blockbuster of 2019 as it had monstrous collections everywhere. Yet, for Mogra Phulaalaa to survive is a feat.
Mogra Phulaalaa is a simple family film that deals about a man torn between the woman he loves and his possessive mother trying to stop the union between the two. It marks director Shrabani Deodhar’s comeback after ages. The lead role is essayed by Swapnil Joshi, Sai Deodhar and Neena Kulkarni. The other cast members of the film include Chandrakant Kulkarni, Anand Ingale and Sandeep Pathak. Mogra Phulaalaa released in cinemas on June 14.
