Fenil’s Bollywood Talk # 870

CHHAAVA IS A BLOCKBUSTER; WILL MERE HUSBAND KI BIWI SUCCEED?

The biggest film of 2025 yet, Chhaava, has brought cheers in the industry as it has performed beyond expectations, just like most of the movies backed by Maddock Films. The film was expected to open at Rs. 20 crores plus. But it managed to collect Rs. 29 crores, which no one had expected. The film jumped to Rs. 34 crores on Saturday and then saw another jump as it earned a whopping Rs. 44 crores on Sunday.

Chhaava didn’t fall much on Monday. It collected Rs. 23 crores on Monday, which was just 20% less than Friday collections. The film then jumped to Rs. 24.50 crores on Tuesday, as the next day, Wednesday, was a holiday in Maharashtra due to Shivaji Jayanti. As per early reports, the film collected around Rs. 29-30 crores on its sixth day, which is simply phenomenal.

There will be some drop for Chhaava on Thursday. It’ll cross the Rs. 200 crore mark in its first week. Then, it’s all about how it holds in the second weekend. If the hold is strong, Chhaava can cross the Rs. 300 crore mark and maybe even enter the Rs. 400 crore club.

As per Box Office India, the first day number was ‘pushed’ and this is a bit of a downer for the film. Chhaava already had a strong buzz. With this ‘push’, its first day numbers would have been lesser but looking at the response, it would have still done remarkably well. In fact, then its numbers would have brought even more cheer.

Nevertheless, the job is done and Chhaava is the biggest hit for Bollywood after Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which arrived way back in Diwali 2024.

Meanwhile, the big release of the week is Mere Husband Ki Biwi. It was shot way back in the second half of 2022 and finally releases in cinemas tomorrow, February 21. It stars Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh and Bhumi Pednekar and is directed by Mudassar Aziz of Khel Khel Mein fame. The concept is interesting and the film looks appealing.

Sadly, the trailer is not as funny as intended. The casting is not that attractive for people and on top of it, there’s huge competition from Chhaava. Mere Husband Ki Biwi should hopefully have an opening of more than Rs. 1 crore. There’s an offer of buy-one-ticket-get-one-free in PVR Inox cinemas and it remains to be seen if it helps the film.
