Tujhe Meri Kasam was re-released yesterday. It was originally released in 2003 and has never been available on DVD, OTT or TV channels ever since. This is because it keeps on regularly playing in theatres in certain towns of Maharashtra. Believe it or not, it runs house full most of the time in these centres and has a cult following. Having watched the film finally, I can understand why the film has a fan base. It rests on a wafer-thin plot and even reminds one of college romance films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Saathiya and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Yet, it works big time for the humour. We just don’t have such films anymore and that adds to the fun. The chemistry between Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh is lovely. The film does get stretched and even drops in a few places. The ending is sudden but thankfully, these are minor blemishes. Riteish Deshmukh is damn good in his debut role. Genelia Deshmukh looked adorable and is effortless. Supriya Pilgaonkar, Asrani and Tinnu Anand are too funny. Shriya Saran is sweet in her debut Hindi role but her track seems a bit unwanted. Satish Shah, Shakti Kapoor, Supriya Karnik and Anuradha Patel do well as the parents. Raja Bherwani is a bit raw but works. Bipasha Basu and Isha Koppikar add to the glam factor with their cameos. All songs (by Viju Shah) are catchy, especially the title song. All in all, Tujhe Meri Kasam is a film meant to be enjoyed with friends and family. Do give it a try in cinemas if the other releases don’t interest you.
My rating – *** ½ out of 5!
