Shazam! Fury Of The Gods is a justified sequel and neatly and organically takes the story forward. The antagonists this time are menacing and add to the madness. The franchise is known for its light-hearted approach and the makers maintain it in the sequel. The humour quotient is very strong this time. Two scenes in the first half bring the house down. Sadly, the climax fight is messy, heavy and also clichéd. It takes away some impact. Thankfully, the finale scene saves the day. Speaking of performances, Zachary Levi, as expected, rocks the show. Asher Angel (Billy) is hardly there. But Jack Dylan Grazer (Freddy) is too good and gets a lot of screen time. Rachel Zegler (Anthea) is lovely and delivers a fine performance. Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are great as the antagonists. Djimon Hounsou is the surprise of the film and his role is lengthier in the sequel. Ian Chen (Eugene), Faithe Herman (Darla), Grace Fulton (Mary), Jovan Armand (Pedro), Adam Brody (Adult Freddy), Ross Butler (Adult Eugene), Meagan Good (Adult Darla) and D J Cotrona (Adult Pedro) are decent. Marta Milans (Rosa) and Cooper Andrews (Victor) lend able support. Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) is terrific in a cameo. All in all, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods is a great entertainer and fans of the series and DCEU shouldn’t miss the film at any cost.
My rating – *** ½ out of 5!
