The Post is a stunning saga that talks about a 47 year old incident but still manages to resonate with the audiences today. It is based on the true story of a newspaper team and their conflict between what is right morally and what is right legally. The first half is a bit dry and it takes a while to get a hang of who is who as so many characters get established. But the film goes on another level in the second half. The manner in which Steven Spielberg keeps the audiences engaged is seen to be believed. The era gone by is amazingly recreated and it’s fun to see about the workings of the newspapers then. The principle characters are very well flushed out and Meryl Streep comes out with flying colours. She gets to play a challenging and a very interesting character and she delivers an award-worthy performance. Tom Hanks is dependable as always and yet again delivers a highly memorable performance. Bob Odenkirk, Tracy Letts and Matthew Rhys also leave a mark. A must-watch film in today’s times and hoping it picks up a couple of Oscars!
My rating – **** ½ out of 5!
