Murder Mubarak, which has released today on Netflix, has a great beginning; the characters are introduced in style. The murder is depicted most unexpectedly and the characters are quite quirky. The investigation process is entertaining while the climax is unpredictable. But mid-way, the film drops. It gets too long and also unexciting. Also, a benchmark has been set by certain murder mysteries of late and Murder Mubarak doesn’t reach that level. The other major problem is that the makers don’t do justice to the starry presence of Karisma Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. The former, especially, doesn’t have much to do. Sanjay Kapoor is great but again, after a point, he gets a raw deal. And this is sad as his arc is too good. Pankaj Tripathi, nevertheless, steals the show. Sara Ali Khan is quite good, especially in the second half. Vijay Varma, as always, is dependable. Deven Bhojani is adorable and dominates the first 30 minutes. Brijendra Kala (Guppie Ram) leaves a mark. Tisca Chopra is lovely. Suhail Nayyar, Aashim Gulati and Priyank Tiwari do well in supporting roles. All in all, Murder Mubarak is an average film.
My rating – ** ½ out of 5!
