Mumbaikar, which has released today on Jio Cinema, is a remake of a popular Tamil film and in the same zone as films like Lootcase, Delhi Belly, Shor In The City etc. These films have set a benchmark and Mumbaikar fails to reach anywhere close. The plusses are that some scenes are funny and the 123 minutes long film doesn’t ever get boring. However, the writing is weak and there is hardly any humour after a point. The weak direction further spoils the show. The absence of backstories is another problem. Speaking of performances, Vikrant Massey is dependable as always. Vijay Sethupathi makes the film likeable to an extent. Tanya Maniktala is lovely and has a fine screen presence. Ranvir Shorey is okay. Hridhu Haroon is good in his debut. Sachin Khedekar, Sanjay Mishra, Brijendra Kala and the actors playing the gang members and acid attackers are decent. All in all, Mumbaikar fails to entice.
