Motichoor Chaknachoor begins on an excellent note, surprisingly. The humour comes out very well, the performances are excellent and the locales are never before seen. The setting is also visually great and it’s interesting to see the way viewers get acquainted with the neighbourhood in no time. The intermission point is a great surprise and raises lot of laughs. And then comes the second half and the film goes downhill! The humour level drops and the film gets very unconvincing and unjustified, and also misogynistic! In the climax, the makers again try to infuse humour but it doesn’t really work. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is as always excellent and gets his act right. His comic timing is very good. Athiya Shetty is also a huge surprise of the film as she’s terrific! She understands her character and brings out the accent, body language and mannerisms correctly. Her timing too is bang on. Here’s hoping she gets more roles like these as she definitely has potential! From the supporting cast, Karuna Pandey (mausi), Vibha Chibber and Abhishek Rawat leave a mark. All in all, Motichoor Chaknachoor is an average fare and has the potential to work big time on television!
My rating – ** ½ out of 5!
