Moana 2 takes the story forward organically three years after the events of the first part. The songs add to the fun and vibrancy while a few funny and emotional moments stand out. However, the goings-on are underwhelming this time and not as effective as the predecessor. One sub-plot seems forced while the climax lacks the punch. The film has a mid-credit scene with a promise of a third part but it fails to up the excitement. Thankfully, the film has certain plusses, one of which are the superb voiceovers by Auliʻi Cravalho (Moana), Dwayne Johnson (Maui), Rose Matafeo (Loto) and David Fane (Kele). Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda is adorable as Moana’s younger sister Simea. All in all, Moana is worth watching once; keep your expectations in check as it’s not as great as the first part.
