(Crisp) Movie Review: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING – PART ONE by FENIL SETA

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One provides entertainment and action in abundance. The film has a bit of a shaky start but soon gets quite exciting. The action and chase sequences are quite lengthy but at the same time, quite captivating. It’s easy to understand that director Christopher McQuarrie and producer Tom Cruise have simply gone all out to ensure that audiences have an exciting time in cinemas. Hence, the action and nail-biting moments are many notches higher this time. The climax is very tense and the film ends with the promise that the next part will be out soon. However, the film is a bit confusing in places. Also, the absence of subtitles poses a problem. It’s bewildering why Viacom18 Studios is not providing subtitles when every other studio does. Speaking of performances, Tom Cruise is outstanding not just in action but also in emotional and dramatic sequences. And just to see him, at the age of 60, do these stunts, is enough for the audience to clap and hoot, and also get their money’s worth. Simon Pegg (Benji) and Ving Rhames (Luther) are dependable. Simon especially rocks in a crucial scene in the first half. Hayley Atwell (Grace) plays a crucial character with panache. Rebecca Ferguson (Isla) is just okay. Esai Morales (Gabriel) is decent as the villain. Vanessa Kirby (White Widow), Henry Czerny (Eugene Kittridge), Pom Klementieff (Gabriel’s assassin Paris) and Shea Whigham (Jasper Briggs) do well. All in all, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One is a paisa-vasool flick and shouldn’t be missed in cinemas at any cost.

My rating – **** out of 5!
