Man With A Movie Camera is an experimental documentary film made way back in 1929 in Russia. There’s no story and script – it is almost 70 minutes long and shows the everyday life of the citizens in Russia. It’s fun at places to see the tools, vehicles etc used by people then in their daily life then and other such aspects. But after a point, one starts to lose interest as there’s nothing happening in the film. It must have been a landmark film in those times as it has used fast motion, slow motion, split screen and other such techniques, which surely weren’t much in use then. Yet, with no plot whatsoever and it’s visual impact being lost since all the techniques are very much in use now, Man With A Movie Camera might find it hard to really impress like it did before. It is in the esteemed lists of greatest films ever made but for me, this is a plain disappointment!
