Man With The Binoculars is an Assamese film by Rima Das that tells the story of a lonely widower who was once a geography teacher. When he gets a pair of binoculars, there occurs a change in his other monotonous life. Man With The Binoculars moves slowly but is equipped with a great plot, stunning locales and top class work by the technical team. The film is based in a small village in Assam and there are several moments in the film where one forgets that one is sitting in a theatre and not in a rural setting. Great work by cinematographer Rattnajit Roy and sound designer Amrit Pritam. National Award winner Bishnu Kharghariya is excellent in his role. Other actors too do a fine job, including Rima herself. On the flipside, the film is too slow and could have been shorter by 10 minutes (it’s 100 minutes long). Yet, it’s worth watching for the effort and for the setting!
