Laal Kaptaan is a slow, painful and a bizarre film. The writing is poor and even the execution isn’t great. The editing is not smooth in this film that has multiple tracks. On top of that, it’s confusing and the lack of subtitles adds to it, especially when so many characters are speaking in different dialects throughout the film. A few developments will baffle viewers. Although the explanation is given in the end, it’s too late and also a bit silly. On the positive side, a few scenes here and there are well shot. And performances are great. Saif Ali Khan is damn good and looks so dashing. It’s really unfortunate that the film he worked so hard for will go largely unnoticed. Deepak Dobriyal tries to be funny but doesn’t succeed in most of the scenes. Manav Vij is awesome as the villain. His intense eyes compliment his character. Zoya Hussain is confident while Neeraj Kabi is dependable. Sonakshi Sinha is wasted and is there for a few minutes. All in all, Laal Kaptaan should be avoided at all costs!
