(Crisp) Movie Review: GADAR 2 by FENIL SETA

Gadar 2 is peppered with some massy scenes that keep the interest going. The first part is unforgettable and one of the greatest films ever made for most moviegoers. There’s a strong connection with Tara Singh and how he brought back his wife from Pakistan. As a result, the mere appearance of Tara gets viewers excited in the sequel. Thankfully, the makers have added some highly entertaining action scenes and clapworthy one-liners. The twist at the mid-point is unexpected. Sadly, the film also has its share of minuses. The first half is too long and has two songs, picturized on Utkarsh. In fact, Sunny Deol is missing in most of the first half and that’s just not done. Viewers have excitedly thronged the theatres to see Sunny Deol. Utkarsh, moreover, doesn’t have that appeal and one could sense viewers getting restless in his scenes as they were missing Tara Singh. Ideally, a more popular actor like Varun Dhawan or Kartik Aaryan should have been cast as Jeete. Then, viewers wouldn’t have minded. Moreover, the second half is unimaginative. Songs are also forgettable. Speaking of performances, Sunny Deol puts up an energetic performance. Ameesha Patel is wasted. Utkarsh Sharma genuinely tries but fails to entice. Simratt Kaur is lovely. Manish Wadhwa is loud but it works for his villainous character. Ehsan Khan (Abdul Ali), Mushtaq Khan (Gul Khan), Mushtaq Kak (Kurban Khan), Gaurav Chopra (Lieutenant Colonel Devendra Rawat) and Lubna Salim (Pakistani mausi) are fine. All in all, Gadar 2 is a one-time watch thanks to the strong recall value and massy scenes. Watching it in cinemas will  make for a fun experience as viewers will be seen rooting and cheering for Team Tara Singh!
