Chintu Ka Birthday is a film co-produced by the team of All India Bakchod (AIB) and directed by Devanshu Kumar and Satyanshu Singh. It’s just 80 minutes long and as the title suggests, it’s a story of a boy named Chintu and what happens on his birthday. The Iraq setting adds a lot to the film and makes it one of its kind. It’s majorly set in one house and yet, it doesn’t give a feel of a drama or a play. The humour is well infused in the narrative. On the flipside, the film gets too heavy and a few developments in the last 15 minutes are not entirely convincing. The performances are great. Vinay Pathak is quite lovable and emerges as the best actor of the lot. Tillotama Shome is dependable and in one scene, she sings a beautiful song which is worth a watch. Seema Bhargava has a great part and excels. Vedant Chibber (Chintu) and Bisha Chaturvedi (Lakshmi) are confident. But from the kid actors in the film, Mehroos Mir (Waheed) takes the ‘cake’. He’s too good and also contributes to the film’s laughter quotient! Khaled Masso (Hassan Mahdi) has a fine screen presence and is excellent. Reginald L Barnes (Louis Jackson) and Nate Scholz (Darren Reed) are fine as US soldiers. Chintu Ka Birthday was shown yesterday night at Mumbai’s Deepak (Matterden) cinema and there’s one more show today, which is sold out. Due to huge public demand, another show has been organized for tomorrow Thursday October 17 at 9:15 pm. Tickets are fast-filling and those interested should book your tickets from Matterden’s website immediately!
