Black Bag is directed by Steven Soderbergh and he has put together a great set of actors. The film has an interesting premise and is not a typical spy film. The beginning is quite arresting. Sadly, after a compelling 20 minutes, the film falls. It gets boring and very complicated. If you don’t pay attention even for a second, you’ll not understand the rest of the film. Thankfully, it’s just 94 minutes long. The suspense also doesn’t give viewers a kick as the narrative just doesn’t involve them. Michael Fassbender delivers a subtle yet impactful performance. Cate Blanchett, as always, is too good. Marisa Abela (Clarissa) is the scene-stealer. Tom Burke (Freddie), Naomie Harris (Zoe) and Regé-Jean Page (James) also do well. Pierce Brosnan is decent in a supporting role. All in all, Black Bag is disappointing.
