Bholaa is a grand action entertainer directed by Ajay Devgn and is set in one crazy night. The film starts on a great note. A few scenes are well executed and the action is quite stunning. It’s also a true-blue big-screen film. Sadly, the film fails on the emotional front. The storytelling is to blame here. And the major issue is that a lot of questions are unanswered and the makers have left it for the sequel. That’s not done as a film has to be complete in itself. Even Pathaan will have subsequent parts but its makers completed the story neatly. Something of that sort should have happened here as well. Speaking of performances, Ajay Devgn is in great form. He looks dashing and excels in action scenes. Tabu gives her best but is let down by the character. Amala Paul is hardly there and has a fine screen presence. Deepak Dobriyal is superb and one wishes he had more screen time. Amir Khan (Kadchi) leaves a mark. Sanjay Mishra is likeable. Vineet Kumar is menacing but is okay. Gajraj Rao is nothing special and the makers haven’t properly established his character’s background and connection with the plot. Makrand Deshpande is over the top. Arpit Ranka (Bhoora; undercover cop), Chetan Sharma (Chashmish), Deepali Gautam (Naina) and Kiran Kumar (I G Jayant Malik) are fair. The child actor Hirva Samir Trivedi (Jyoti) does well. All in all, Bholaa fails to create the desired impact.
