(Crisp) Movie Review: BADASS RAVI KUMAR by FENIL SETA

Badass Ravi Kumar begins with a smart disclaimer, stating ‘logic is optional’. It makes it clear that don’t expect any sensible stuff in the film and just enjoy the crazy ride. Soon, you see that the film is set in 1989 and yet, the cars depicted are of the present day. And you don’t mind it as, after all, logic is optional! The film is replete with over-the-top scenes, whistle-worthy dialogues, mass-appealing moments and of course, a superb soundtrack. It was so good to see a film with nearly a dozen songs after ages and most of the tracks are damn good, especially ‘Dil Ke Taj Mahal Meinn’ and ‘Hookstep Hookah Bar’. On the flipside, the direction and editing are haphazard and hamper the impact. In some places, things happen at random and the makers should have been a little more imaginative. Also, at one point, 5-6 songs are played back-to-back for no reason. After the fourth song, it makes for a tedious watch. Himesh Reshammiya is dashing and his acting is terrific. The way he plays to the gallery is seen to be believed. Prabhudheva is over the top but it works for his villainous role. Kirti Kulhari looks sizzling and leaves a huge mark. Anil George (Bhujang), Rajesh Sharma, Saurabh Sachdeva, Manish Wadhwa, Prashant Narayanan, Mustafa Askari (Raftaar), Navneet Nishan and Sulbha Arya leave a mark in supporting roles. Johny Lever and Sanjay Mishra are okay while Sunny Leone is fine in a cameo. Simona J looks pretty but doesn’t act properly. All in all, Badass Ravi Kumar is a dhamaal entertainer but it’s compulsory to keep your brains aside and watch it.
