(Crisp) Movie Review: AGNI by FENIL SETA

Agni, which has released today on Amazon Prime Video, celebrates firefighters, the unsung heroes of our society. Watching this film will make you ponder why don’t we celebrate them the way we celebrate cops and army officers. Director Rahul Dholakia sucks the viewers into the world of firefighters instantly. The characters are interesting and the tussle between the cop and the fire station chief makes for a superb watch. The unexpected humour works well. There’s also a suspense element and it’s very unpredictable. However, it is not entirely convincing. Also, a few aspects are confusing and should have been simplified. Pratik Gandhi, as expected, plays his part with sincerity. Divyenndu is the life of the film and enhances impact with his performance and comic timing. Sai Tamhankar is lovable and puts her best foot forward. Saiyami Kher leaves a huge mark while Jitendra Joshi rocks the show. Udit Arora (Jazz), Kabir Shah (Pratik’s son), Pramod Pathak (Pankaj Mishra) and Sakhi Gokhale (Sayali; Samit’s wife) do very well. Anant Jog (Deputy CM) is over the top but it works for his role. All in all, Agni deserves a watch. The film is technically top-class and should have ideally been released in cinemas.
