(Crisp) Movie Review: A COMPLETE UNKNOWN by FENIL SETA

A Complete Unknown is based on the life of Bob Dylan and has earned eight Oscar nominations. The film is peppered with famous songs of the musician and also speaks about his life, which many might not know about. It makes for an interesting overall and some scenes are quite dramatic and hence, memorable. However, the film is too long and also follows a predictable pattern of musical biopics. The secondary characters don’t get their proper due as the focus is mainly on the protagonist. Timothée Chalamet is terrific as an actor and singer and deserves an Oscar nomination. The same applies to Monica Barbaro (Baez) and Edward Norton (Pete Seeger). Elle Fanning (Sylvie Russo), Scoot McNairy (Woody Guthrie) and others do well. All in all, A Complete Unknown is a fine attempt but turns out to be an average fare.
